Lactation tea
One of my favorite aspects of postpartum is how cozy it is. We were given a natural three to six week period of healing which requires us to slow down and soak in all the moments. It gives time to shut off the rest of the worlds noise, treasure the current moment and tackle new challenges with your newborn. This is also the time to establish breastfeeding, a fantastic way to connect with your newborn. This lactation tea comes from the book “Nourishing Traditions” and could be a remedy for little supply.
Altough this tea is a beautiful solution for low milk supply, I always reccomend taking a look at diet first. Food fuels. Food is medicine.
Lacation tea
1 ounce blessed thistle, dried
1 ounce raspberry or stinging nettle leaf, dried
1 teaspoon per cup aromatic seeds such as anise, caraway, coriander, cumin, dill or fennel
Place the leaves in a half gallon jar and fill to the top with boiling water. Cap tightly and let steep overnight. Strain and refrigerate the liquid. Before nursing, heat 1 cup of the brew to near boiling and pour over 1 teaspoon of any of the aromatic seeds. Allow to brew for five minutes. Sip slowly during the nursing period.
